Peter James and Pauline Rowson entertain the audience at Portsmouth Bookfest

Peter James in conversation with Pauline RowsonOver ninety people turned out to hear Pauline Rowson interview best selling crime author, Peter James at Portsmouth Bookfest on Thursday 22 February.  The event held the audience spellbound as Peter James talked about how he researches and plots his crime novels.

There was a good deal of similarity between the way the two crime authors work and both expressed gratitude to the police for their assistance with research.

Peter James with Pauline Rowson talking about his crime novelsPeter James works very closely with East Sussex police while Pauline Rowson with Hampshire Police.  Peter James said, 'The police are the glue that binds our society together.'  Pauline Rowson expressed her gratitude to libraries for the part they played in changing her life as a child and the important role they provide in giving access to books to those who can't afford them.

Peter James and Pauline Rowson book signing at Portsmouth BookFestPeter James’ Roy Grace detective novels have sold over 18 million copies worldwide and have repeatedly topped the Sunday Times bestseller charts.  Peter has twice been Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) and has won many literary awards, including the publicly voted ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards People’s Bestseller Dagger but he said when asked by Pauline that the proudest moment of his career to date was winning the Crime Writers' Association Diamond Dagger Award for outstanding crime writing. NEED YOU DEAD is the latest  Peter James novel to be published in paperback.

Peter James and Pauline Rowson talking to audience at Portsmouth BookFestPauline Rowson is an established internationally acclaimed crime author of eighteen novels.  Her Inspector Andy Horton novels (13) are set in Portsmouth and have been optioned by Lime Pictures for TV.   Her crime novels, set against the atmospheric backdrop of the sea, have been translated into several languages and are published in the UK, Commonwealth and the USA.  LETHAL WAVES is the latest to be published in paperback.

Portsmouth BookFest is a festival of popular literature organised by Portsmouth Central Library on behalf of Portsmouth City Council. The books are provided by the Hayling Island Bookshop.
