Cowes Week gets off to great start with DI Andy Horton in Death Surge

It's Cowes Week and DI Andy Horton has a mystery to solve based around it.

Death Surge - DI Andy Horton Crime Novel by Pauline RowsomDeath Surge is the tenth in the DI Andy Horton police procedural crime series.

What began as the hunt for a missing man becomes the search for a ruthless killer...

A telephone call from a frantic Sergeant Cantelli to say that his nephew, Johnnie Oslow, is missing cuts short Detective Inspector Horton’s sailing trip to France. Summoned back to the Isle of Wight, Horton learns that Johnnie has not shown up for racing during Cowes Week, as previously arranged. The investigation is ranked low priority by Horton’s boss, DCI Lorraine Bliss, who like others believes Johnnie has probably gone off with a woman. But events take a very different turn when the charred remains of a body are discovered in one of the disused tunnels at the Hilsea Lines in Portsmouth

Cowes Week is one of the highlights of Britain's summer sailing sporting events when countless number of yachts take part in the racing off Cowes in the Solent and many in the yachting world descend on the small town of Cowes for a week of festivities. It has been held in early August every year since 1826, except during the two world wars. Traditionally, Cowes Week takes place during the first week of August although it is sometimes delayed a week  to take into account the tides or, as in 2012, to avoid a clash with the Olympic Games and this year follows hot on the heels of the Americas Cup first leg racing which took part in the Solent off Portsmouth on 24 - 26 July.  Over the years Cowes Week has attracted British and foreign royalty, and many famous faces.
