Trust no one, believe nothing….

Detective Inspector Andy Horton is called out to examine a gruesome catch by two fishermen: a human hand. Is it that of missing violent criminal Alfie Wright – or is he the killer? And where is the rest of the corpse?   Soon Horton finds himself immersed in a complex case where everyone has a reason to lie and no one is who they seem.

Listen to the interview with Julian Clegg on BBC Radio Solent

Pauline Rowson on air at BBC Radio Solent Julian Clegg Breakfast Show Oct. 15It was again a great treat to be on BBC Radio Solent on Monday 5 October, talking to Julian Clegg and his many thousands of early morning listeners. We talked about the new DI Andy Horton crime novel, Fatal Catch, and Julian, who is reading the first in the Art Marvik crime series, Silent Running, said how much he is enjoying  that crime novel.

He also played  an audio clip taken from a talk I gave to Romsey U3A on how I research the forensic bits for my crime novels which gave us a nice lead into the forthcoming CSI Southampton. Scroll down to see more details about CSI Southampton on Saturday 24 October.

How far would you go to protect a secret?

For DI Andy Horton there is no choice, but withholding information in a murder investigation could cost him his job

"A compelling protagonist and mounting suspense make the book hard to put down." Publishers Weekly

Pauline Rowson explains why she sets her crime novels against the backdrop of the sea.

Sailing into Portsmouth HarbourThe sea has always held a fascination for me, probably because I was raised in the coastal city of Portsmouth with its vibrant waterfront, its great contrasts of modern and historic, its diverse multicultural population, its international port, its historic dockyard, fishing fleet and the home of the Royal Navy.  Portsmouth Harbour is one of the busiest in the World and the Solent offers up every kind of sailing vessel you could wish for from giant container ships to ferries, naval ships to leisure craft, fishing boats and even a regular hovercraft service. Once the sea is in your blood it never leaves you and it seemed only natural for me to turn to it for inspiration for my crime novels.

An unusual question from a member of the audience at talk in Southampton

Pauline Rowson entertaining the audience at SouthamptonThere was a slightly unusual question posed by a member of the audience at a talk I recently gave to the Southampton NHS Fellowship - how can DI Andy Horton fund his lifestyle, living on a boat in a marina? I thought it worthwhile repeating here and giving the answer.

CSI Southampton Saturday 24 October 2015 - tickets on sale

Join Pauline Rowson and fellow crime author Natasha Cooper at CSI Southampton on Saturday 24 October at Southampton Central Library where the cream of crime fiction writers meet real life crime experts.

The morning session kicks off with a panel where crime authors Pauline Rowson and Natasha Cooper will be debating with crime scene experts from Hampshire Police, Carolyn Lovell Head of Crime Scene Investigation Management, and Jane Aston Fingerprint Bureau Supervisor, just how crime fiction differs from crime fact. There will also be the chance for you to ask your questions of the panel and to have your fingerprints pressed into a keep-sake key ring to take away.

In the afternoon crime author Peter Lovesey will discuss how a decent law abiding man can think up 200 ways of murdering people, followed by crime authors Jessie Keane and Sue Wilkins in discussion with Penny Legg on how they create their crime novels. There’ll be book signings and the chance to mingle with both crime authors and crime experts.
