Celebrating Libraries Week pre pandemic days at Christchurch Library

Christchurch Library Pauline Rowson entertaining members with tales of her crime fiction heroesWith my continuing theme of re-visiting my talks of yesteryear in the absence of giving them in 2020 because of the Covid-19 rules and regulations here I was on Wednesday 10 October 2018 at the lovely Christchurch Library, giving a talk as part of Libraries Week celebrations.

I talked about my crime novels and my crime busting fictional heroes, the flawed and rugged DI Andy Horton and my undercover investigator, Art Marvik a former Royal Marine Commando who appears on three mystery thrillers..

I explained how locations along the south coast of England provide the inspiration for my crime novels of which there are now twenty-one and how I turn these ideas into mymulti-layered and gripping plots.

There are now fifteen in the Inspector Andy Horton police procedural series set in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight; three Art Marvik mystery thrillers  set along the south coast including the Jurassic coast of Dorset and the Downs of East Sussex, Beachy Head and Cuckmere Haven; two in the atmospheric 1950s set mystery series featuring Inspector Ryga and two standalone thrillers.

Christchurch Library - Pauline Rowson talking about her crime novelsI explained to a fabulous audience how I develop my plot lines by creating a storyboard; how 1 create my characters using spidergrams and how I research the police procedure and the forensic aspects of my crime novels, gratefully acknowledging the assistance of Hampshire constabulary, the crime of scene officers, Hampshire fingerprint bureau, investigating offices and the police marine unit.

It was a pleasure to be back at Christchurch Library where I gave a talk ten years ago not long after I was first published. The audience as usual were lovely and it was a treat to meet so many DI Andy Horton fans.
