Odiham U3A get a taste for murder

Pauline Rowson entertains the audience at Odiham, Hampshire with tales of her crime fighting heroesIn the absence of giving talks throughout 2020 and most of 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the banning of all social gatherings I've been taking a trip down memory lane of the talks I have given over the years.  This one was to members of Odiham U3A in May 2016 when I entertained them with tales of my fictional crime busting heroes, the rugged and flawed DI Andy Horton and undercover investigator, Art Marvik, a former Royal Marine Commando who now works for the UK's Police National Intelligence Marine Squad.

Over seventy people listened while I talked about about how I write my crime novels set against the backdrop of the sea, primarily on the South Coast of England.

The enigmatic sailing detective  DI Andy Horton features in fifteen crime novels with TIDE OF DEATH the first in the series and A DEADLY WAKE number fifteen.  I am currently writing number sixteen ( 2021). There are now four in the Marvik, mystery thriller series, with SILENT RUNNING the first and DEAD SEA, number four in the series.

And since this talk took place I have created another crime series, this time set in the 1950s and featuring Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Ryga, who is sent out to solve  baffling coastal crimes. The first is set on Portland Island, Dorset - DEATH IN THE COVE, and the second is set in Newhaven, East Sussex - DEATH IN THE HARBOUR.  Number three in the Inspector Ryga series DEATH IN THE NETS set in Brixham, Devon will be published on 4 October 2021.

Pauline Rowson talking about crime writing at Odiham, HampshireI spoke of how I draw the inspiration for my crime novels from locations, primarily in the Solent area but also along the South Coast of England; how I work up ideas for the novels, develop characters and devise and map out plot lines.

Pauline Rowson talking to readers and book signing at Odiham U3A, Hants. My talk  was followed by a lively Question and Answer session and a book signing.

The audience were great. I  thoroughly enjoyed talking to them.

I'm delighted to announce that live engagements are to resume in England in June 2021 and my first talk is booked for 27 July to Portsmouth U3A.
