Pauline Rowson's Podcasts- Writing first drafts and revisions

I've launched a podcast channel which combines episodes on writing crime fiction, the background to my crime novels, characters and plots, and extracts from my crime, mystery thrillers.

You can listen to the episodes on Podomatic, Spotify, Player FM  or Google Podcasts.

Here is an episode on first drafts and revisions, there are others on ideas and inspiration, how I research my crime novels and extracts from my mystery thrillers, IN COLD DAYLIGHT and IN FOR THE KILL. Lots more to follow. I hope you enjoy listening to it and others in the series.

First drafts and revisions

Back in the saddle again at Portsmouth U3A

Pauline Rowson first talk since Covid lockdown to Portsmouth U3AYes, it was time for celebrations as I was back in the saddle again, or rather I was back in front of an audience talking about how I write my crime novels and my crime fictional heroes - DI Andy Horton, Art Marvik and my Scotland Yard 1950s detective, Inspector Ryga.

However, as I was talking to members of Portsmouth U3A they were very keen to hear specifically about my rugged and flawed detective, Inspector Andy Horton, because I was on his CID patch - Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

It was great to be back in front of an audience. After an absence of sixteen months because of the prohibition of all social gatherings such as these owing to Covid. Here's hoping more talks will follow.

DI Andy Horton's investigations in August

TIDE OF DEATH DI Andy Horton 1 by Pauline RowsonAugust sees three of my DI Andy Horton crime novels set in that month, so it's a busy time for Andy, although to be fair they're not all set in the same year! The first is Horton's very first investigation TIDE OF DEATH, (no. 1 in the series) when after an eight month suspension on a charge of gross misconduct he is back in CID and running along Portsmouth's seafront on a foggy August day where he almost trips over the naked body of a man on the beach. Determined to prove his innocence of the charges that have wrecked his career and his marriage Horton finds his personal investigations sidelined when he sets out to find a killer who will stop at nothing to cover his tracks.

He has two more complex investigations in August  to solve, UNDERCURRENT (no.9) which is swiftly followed by another DEATH SURGE (no. 10).  I am currently writing number sixteen in the series, which I hope will be published in Spring 2022.
