The Art Marvik mystery thrillers - the story behind Art Marvik

Art Marvik Mystery Thrillers by Pauline RowsonLOST VOYAGE, the third in the Marvik mystery thriller series is now published in paperback. It is also available as an e book and on Amazon Kindle as are the other two novels in the crime series. But who is Marvik? What is his background and what makes him tick? This review from Net Galley rather neatly sums him up.

Art Marvik

"Marvik is an interesting and credible central character. He is a loner who can take care of himself in a fight, but he is no ‘superhero’ and there is a nice sense of vulnerability about him. There are also interesting references to the mysterious death of Marvik’s parents in the past, which I suspect will feature in future books. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it should appeal to most readers who like British crime stories with a strong regional feel." Net Galley

Here is a bit more about Art Marvik

Former Royal Marine Commando, Special Boat Services Officer Art Marvik is highly trained, fearless, intelligent and fit. But injuries inflicted while in combat have forced him to leave the marines and seek a new life in Civvy Street. He thought he’d be able to adjust and carve out a new career for himself on the sea, but his first job as a private maritime security operative goes very wrong when the luxury motor cruiser he was travelling on and had been detailed to guard, gets attacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean, and Marvik finds himself with a bullet in his shoulder and the boat’s owner dead. He failed on his first mission in civilian life, and Silent Running the first in the Marvik mystery thriller series opens with him reeling from it.

Silent Running an Art Marvik mystery by Pauline RowsonMarvik’s not sure what lies ahead for him but when his former Royal Marine comrade, Shaun Strathen, enlists his help to find a missing computer scientist and a former girlfriend of Marvik’s goes missing after visiting him in his remote Isle of Wight cottage Marvik finds himself attached to the UK's newly formed and covert National Intelligence Marine Squad (NIMS) led by Detective Chief Superintendent Crowder. Silent Running, launches Marvik on a new career as a private investigator.

Dangerous Cargo an Art Marvik mystery by Pauline RowsonMarvik undertakes his second mission for the National Intelligence Marine Squad in Dangerous Cargo when he finds himself on the trail of a 50-year-old mystery, his task to catch a ruthless killer whose murders span over half a century.

'Rowson’s superhero, Art Marvik, returns in another pulse-pounding adventure. Delivering more than enough action to keep adrenaline junkies reading.' Booklist

Lost Voyage an Art Marvik mystery by Pauline RowsonIn Lost Voyage a woman framed for murder, a salvage tug which went missing in 2003, Marvik is called in to investigate. As he delves into the past it soon becomes clear he faces a desperate battle to keep others safe from a ruthless assassin – one who will stop at nothing in order to protect the secret of the Mary Jo’s last voyage from ever being exposed.

"The central plot is very engaging and Rowson ably keeps the reader guessing as to what really happened to the Mary Jo and why. Marvik’s investigation proceeds in a believable manner and the pace steadily picks up as the story progresses, and the book builds to a tense climax." Net Galley

So there you have it, Marvik is an interesting and credible character, a loner who can take care of himself in a fight, but with a sense of vulnerability and a mystery surrounding the death of his parents that he will one day be called upon to investigate.

The Art Marvik mystery thrillers are available in paperback and as an e book. SILENT RUNNING is also available as an audio book narrated by Peter Noble and DANGEROUS CARGO will be released as an audio book early 2019.
