CSI Basingstoke a great success, fun and highly informative

CSI Basingstoke Audience Back in the heady days pre Coronavirus pandemic I was delighted to take part in one of many CSI events I have arranged over the years, where crime fiction meets crime fact.  This one was in 2013 at Basingstoke in Hampshire.

CSI Basingstoke was held on Saturday 6 July at the Basingstoke Discovery Centre in Hampshire, England. It was a a great success.

The event was modelled on the highly successful CSI Portsmouth, which I first organised in 2010 and there  have been many since then.  The CSI events bring crime authors, police and other crime and forensic and experts together for lively panel discussions and a Q & A from the audience.

Pauline Rowson and Peter Lovesey with moderator Angela HickenCSI Basingstoke followed the same format as that of CSI Portsmouth except that the Basingstoke event was a morning only panel where as CSI Portsmouth was a day event.  On the panel on the crime fiction side along with myself was Peter Lovesey who has won many major awards for his crime novels. His latest in the Detective Peter Diamond series is 'The Tooth Tattoo'.

Pauline Rowson, Peter Lovesey, Angela Hicken, Jane Aston, Carolyn LovellWe were joined on the expert side by Carolyn Lovell, Senior Manager, Hampshire Police Crime Scene Investigations and Jane Aston, Fingerprint Supervisor/Acting Bureau Trainer at Hampshire Police who both gave the audience a fascinating insight into their work.  The panel was expertly chaired by Angela Hicken of Hampshire Library Service  and the event was hosted by Basingstoke Discovery Centre.

The Hayling Island Bookshop provided a mobile book shop. Jane Aston was joined by her colleague, Heather Foster, and offered to take the delegates fingerprint and to press  it into a keep sake key ring to take away - a very popular attraction.

My thanks to everyone for making the event so successful and enjoyable and to the audience for joining us.

Death in the Cove by Pauline RowsonSince this talk took place I have a new hero on the block, Scotland Yard's Inspector Ryga who is sent out to solve coastal crimes.  His first is on the Isle of Portland, Dorset when the body of a man in a pin-striped suit is found dead on Church Ope Cove - DEATH IN THE COVE. The second Inspector Ryga 1950 set mystery is DEATH IN THE HARBOUR and will be published on 2 November in paperback, e book and on Kindle. It is available to pre-order. Like the first in the series it is also available as an audio book.

In DEATH IN THE HARBOUR, Ryga is sent to Newhaven, East Sussex  to unravel the mystery of why an ordinary police constable was murdered and his wife has gone missing.

In addition to the above there are three mystery thrillers in the Art Marvik series, the former Royal Marine Commando now an undercover investigator for the UK's National Intelligence Marine Squad.

Art Marvik Mystery Thrillers by Pauline Rowson"Fans of Rowson’s DI Andy Horton books will be delighted with her new series featuring former marine commando Art Marvik.A tense, terrifying thrill ride that twists and turns with dizzying speed, combined with a likable, smart, tough, but all too human hero, make this a cracking-good new series—action fans need Marvik on their radar." Booklist on SILENT RUNNING.

The ART MARVIK series of mystery thrillers will be simultaneous published in paperback and ebook, on Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books and Google on 14 September 2020 - Available to pre-order

My crime novels have been highly acclaimed and translated into several languages.  Multi layered and complex, they contain compelling crimes, diverse characters and are full of twists and turns all played out against the dramatic and powerfully evocative British marine landscape of the south coast of England.
