What's on in October 2021

Death in the Nets, the Inspector Ryga Mystery by Pauline RowsonoThe big news for October 2021 is the publication of number three in the 1950s set Inspector Ryga murder mystery series, DEATH IN THE NETS.

Escaping to the 1950s was the perfect antidote to turbulent Covid times for me writing the third Inspector Ryga mystery, DEATH IN THE NETS.

DEATH IN THE NETS is set in January 1951 in the small fishing town of Brixham in Devon, England where the body of a man stabbed through the heart is found tangled up in fishing nets.

After a series of startling revelations, Scotland Yard's Inspector Ryga is tasked to discover why the dead man who left the town eleven years ago has returned and why someone hated him enough to murder him.

Ryga's experience at sea, and as  a German prisoner-of-war, has made him unique in his approach to solving coastal  basedcrimes.  He's observant, analytical and reflective.  He's witnessed compassion, cruelty, cowardice  and heroism, mental breakdown and despair. He’s made a promise to himself thatwhatever  happens after the war he’ll keep an open mind and never judge.  Ryga once again teams up with former war photographer Eva Paisley. Eva is the opposite of Ryga in terms of personality, she is forthright, sociable, and comfortable in her own skin, professional with a successful career, and a formidable reputation behind her, along with a taste for danger. Her observations seen through the lens of her camera are disturbing, enlightening and thought provoking. Ryga fully acknowledges this and together they make a formidable team - villains beware!

DEATH IN THE NETS is published in paperback, ebook, and on Amazon Kindle.  DEATH IN THE COVE (1) and DEATH IN THE HARBOUR (2) are also available as audio books narrated by Jonathan Rhodes and published by B7 Media available on Audible.

Shroud of Evil a DI Andy Horton Mystery by Pauline Rowson

Also in October DI Andy Horton has a complex investigation to solve in SHROUD OF EVIL

DI Andy Horton is assigned the case of a missing person: Jasper Kenton, aprivate investigator.   Horton suspects the  disappearance has a mundane explanation, that Kenton has gone off with a woman or absconded with his clients' fees but when Kenton’s car turns up,and a shocking discovery is made, things turn serious.

"A compelling protagonist and mounting suspense make the book hard to put down." Publishers Weekly

SHROUD OF EVIL, secrets, lies, exploitation and murder. Secrets can be kept for years, as they have been by those involved in the murder investigation in Shroud of Evil  but it is one person’s determination to expose a secret and exploit it for his own gain that rips apart the fabric of many lives.  And once a secret is exposed nothing is ever the same again.

Horton  finds himself embroiled in an investigation that has major personal  ramifications, and one in which he has no choice but to withhold vital  information. As he struggles to crack the case, he knows it is only a question  of time before someone discovers he’s kept silent, and when that’s revealed his part in hindering a major investigation could end his career .

You can read more about Andy Horton and his investigations here.

In October I will be continuing to write Inspector Ryga mystery number four with DI Andy Horton number sixteen progressing well and still scheduled for publication late spring/early summer 2022.
