Joffe Books are to publish a brand new DI Andy Horton Solent Murder Mystery, number twenty, in this uniquely set and highly atmospheric crime series in the autumn of 2026.
The Solent Murder Mystery series features Harley Davidson riding, sailing detective Andy Horton, who lives on board his small yacht in Southea Marina, Portsmouth, England.
Raised in foster homes and children's homes he has a strong desire to belong and yet is always just on the outside. He's fit with a strong sense of justice. He never wears a suit or tie — unless it’s to go to court. He’s an instinctive copper and a man of contrasts, which often lands him in trouble with his bosses.
Horton’s patch covers the bustling docks of Portsmouth - Europe’s busiest port – to the calm corners of the Isle of Wight and his work can take him to the dark backstreets of the naval town or the bright lights of Cowes Week.
The perspective on each case is uniquely Horton’s. Everything is seen through his eyes with the reader/viewer/listener, experiencing each crime with him, discovering each twist at the same time as him.
The unique angle of each mystery being connected to the sea truly sets this series apart, making it look and feel distinctive from existing urban police procedurals or rural detective novels and dramas.
The sailing element makes the series atmospheric and different, a visual treat and the setting of the Solent brings a landscape to screen and book that is rarely seen in British drama.
The twists, turns and body count of the novels make for surprise endings - the stories are genuine mysteries. The plots are complex but the characters are very human, dealing with real life issues and raw emotions.
“Rowson’s Horton series has been acclaimed in the States as being on a par with Joseph Wambaugh – the grand master of the police story – creator and consultant for Police Story, television series, NBC-TV, 1973-1977 and for The Blue Knight, television series, NBC-TV, 1977. This makes Rowson’s Horton extremely popular with American readers and will attract big American and British television audiences.
The new DI Andy Horton #20 is yet untitled and is set in Portsmouth.
