What's DC Walters' First Name?

A reader asked me recently (2026) why DC Walters doesn't have a first name in the DI Andy Horton Solent Murder Mysteries. Something I had been wondering about myself. 

I've been trawling back through my notes to see if I have ever mentioned it.  I even asked Google AI. Here's that oracle's verdict.

"Based on the DI Andy Horton series by Pauline Rowson, the first name of DC Walters is not explicitly mentioned in the available text snippets from the books. DC Walters appears in the series alongside DI Andy Horton's primary sidekick, Sergeant Cantelli."

So I asked my readers to come up with some names.  Here are your suggestions:  Charlie, Richard, Kenny, Gareth, Eddie, Denny, Dennis, Bob, Kevin. 

While Chat GPT says Daniel is DC Walter's first name.

One reader asked co-pilot AI if a name had ever been given. Here's the response sent to me:
"Yes it had.......Becky!  Poor old Walters has had gender reassignment! It says this is given in The Chidham Creek Murders.”

Wrong.    Lesson: Don't believe everything AI comes up with it!

But here's the deal. I now know what it is and there's a shock in store.

I will be doing a BIG REVEAL in DI Andy Horton 21, which means you'll have to wait until 2027 to find out precisely what it is. Sorry. I'm sure, though, it will be well worth the wait.

Walters is a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, but he has wit and he is solid. He enjoys his food and can often be found munching a packet of crisps or biscuits at his desk. He has a fondness for Jaffa Cakes and custard creams.  He particularly enjoys take-aways and is never happier than when an investigation takes him along some of the Portsmouth streets packed with a variety of them, boasting delicacies from all over the world.  As a result he is somewhat overweight.  Horton is worried that he will never fit into his wedding suit because Walters is marrying Penny - incidentally a fabulous cook like her mother - in April, which means that Horton and Cantelli will be getting wedding invitations and on it will be Walters full name.
